These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens .... nah, just kidding (although kitten whiskers are awfully cute). And now you are all humming the song, aren't you? Admit it!

Ok, seriously, here are some links to some of my favorite websites about some of my favorite topics:

The Yosemite Association -- I love to check out the live webcam views on the Virtual Yosemite page when I need a fix of my favorite place on the planet. YA is a cooperative association that I am proud to be a member of; cooperative associations give monetary and personnel support to the National Park Service to keep visitors centers open, publish books about their park, fund research and much more.

Blood-Horse -- The best place for news and photos about my favorite sport, horse racing. Lots of Triple Crown coverage ---- GO BIG BROWN!!

LibraryThing -- Social networking and books, what could be better? You can catalog your book collection, join discussion groups about just about any topic, and just spend hours messing about this wonderful site.

Bookins -- A great place to swap books; I like this one because only the person receiving the book has to pay postage, so it's great for people like me who are (theoretically) getting rid of more books than they're getting.

Kiva -- A microlending site where you can pick out a small company to loan your money to. When enough people lend out $25 (0r more) each, an entrepreneur in an underdeveloped country can get the money he or she needs to start a business and escape poverty and hunger. I like this approach because you can see your money being put to work in a concrete way, rather than making a donation to a vague "help the poor" type charity.

So now you know where I spend a lot of my time online (when I'm not wasting time on Facebook or window shopping on Amazon.com). Oh come on, like you don't ....

My fave is Facebook, hands down. I get a kick out of playing word games and Knighthood is actually a lot of fun. I even found one of my cousins, some bloggy friends and a few college friends. And the bookshelf apps are really cool. :)
