Not only did the Memorial Day weekend end up being overcast, cool and altogether not summery, but the preparations for our barbecue lunch yesterday were interrupted by a burst pipe under the kitchen sink. Thank goodness our neighbor (who is also the landlord's handyman) had just come home; he shut off the water for us and figured out that the pipe itself hadn't burst, just the connection for the water softener (which we don't use; it was there when we moved in). He disconnected the softener, hooked the pipes back up and voila! We were back to normal ... or as normal as things ever are around here.
The barbeque went well, albeit an hour or so later than planned. Grilled chicken and veggies -- yum! Of course, all that healthy goodness was counteracted by the vanilla ice cream and homemade chocolate chip cookies but hey, it's a holiday, right?
